Bola

Bola is a project created by Pupila, a creative studio based in Costa Rica; and Alive and Kicking, a non-profit organisation that uses, manufactures and sells sports balls ethically in Africa. With the proceeds from this sale and fundraising, Alive and Kicking helps train local community coaches and school teachers to deliver vital health education through sport. It also donates balls to children in disadvantaged communities. In short, they use the life cycle of a football to grow and strengthen communities around the world.

For this project, 32 studios/designers/artists were invited from the 32 qualifying countries for the 2022 World Cup. Each artist was commissioned to design a football, each of which was handmade by Alive and Kicking. The resulting collection was shared with the world so that football and design fans could get their hands on them, with all proceeds going to the organisation and its projects in Africa.

The 32 countries and their respective creatives were: Shima Aeinehdar (Qatar), ilovedust (England), Juan Miguel Marin (Ecuador), Studio Kargah (Iran), Sarah Diouf / Tongoro (Senegal), Lance Wyman (USA), Studio Dumbar, (The Netherlands), Murugiah (Wales), Maxomatic (Argentina), Leslie David Studio (France), Milk (Saudi Arabia), Wade and Leta (Australia).
